Halloween
I love it, most wonderful time of the year. This year we didn't do half of what we normally do - didn't throw a party, didn't go out picnicking in the dark (try it before you mock) due to time constraints, work, etc. WENT to a party at which I think we were the oldest people there but the crowd was pretty crazy and the costumes were awesome. I think the guy dressed as Saskatchewan is the one that's going to stay with me the longest. Last night we shelled out to the children and admired their good and then also sad and pathetic efforts at costumes. Here's where I really start feeling old, "back in my day" kind of shit but a yellowing Jason mask with Tommy Hillwhatzit clothes? Not a costume. Eyeliner? Admittedly, freaky on an 8 yr old but still, not a costume. Some of them got into it and they got extra stuff, books on Halloween themes I'd bought from the employee store at work months ago. But I've got books left and it was a busy night. And the really old part, after all the little childrens were by? We were both exhausted and ready for bed. Actually started out exhausted, but through the help of a higher power I call Mad Fish Australian wine, I made it through. And then fell down. At around 9. Sad? Sad. So, so sad. But some of the wee ones were cute and they were so happy with the board books and such. And I figure the best way to honour the ancestors on the festival of the dead is to treat their descendants well.
