Renovating, even small scale, is an absolutely magical thing. Watching (because me and power tools are yet to be mixy things) quarter round and base board installed, coming home to and actual, no gapping holes ceiling - it's inspiring. I want to upgrade my very existence - job, relationships, organization skills, everything. It’s hard not to get swept up and carried away, though.
Two days ago fabulous husband upgraded the studio space to accommodate the new equipment and business direction. Perfectly logical. Upon completion stated that we are getting proper office furniture for me. While the furniture I have was largely free and is varying degree’s of ugly, I’m loath to swap it for stuff from Staples. Morally, because there are plenty of used goods out there that are both serviceable and sustainable. Economically, because it makes no sense to get a band aid set up until I can get what I want. I used a watch out of a Lucky Charms box for the last two years because I hadn’t seen one I wanted, and didn’t want to replace it with another interim solution just to make it more esthetically pleasing for others. Also, I kinda liked the purple hippo. Found a watch I wanted finally, alerted fabulous husband and he jumped at the chance to get the dancing cartoon hippo’s off my arm. But the one I wanted turned out to be somewhat pricey (read: over $40), with four “complications” and jeweled movement that will never need a battery or winding. Presently, I think I can touch up and sort around the furniture I have until I can get what I want.
Because I’ve just realized what I want is basically Sam Spades office. If I can find a 40’s style desk, wood filing cabinet and rolly wooden chair this summer at yard sales it’ll be happy making all around. If it’s next summer or the summer after…that’s okay too.
I know I’m high maintenance. Does being willing to wait make it better?

Hello Dolly,
Sorry to hear you are sick - bad husband!
You might want to try some auctions to find your Sam Spade collection. Failing that IKEA has a reasonable facsimile chair, but well. . .
Love you lots!
