Reason 612 why I love Toronto: beer. Specifically, Steamwhistle brewing and their recent efforts to get beer to the people who need it the most, Canadian troops. An email from the company: "Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan will be receiving a holiday care package from the Good Beer Folks at Steam Whistle Brewing. A few of our employees have a personal connection to the armed forces and wanted to acknowledge their support of the troops. Simon Hermant, Promotions Coordinator at the brewery (pictured in the centre holding a glass), is spear-heading the effort; his father was a Captain for Queen’s Own Rifles and is now on the Board of the Royal Canadian Military Institute. He rallied employees to donate some of their staff beer, and then brewery co-founders, Cam Heaps and Greg Taylor, agreed to match any donation from staff.
Steam Whistle contacted the Canadian Armed Forces to see if they would be interested in a Christmas donation of beer and it was heartily welcomed. As Afghanistan is a Muslim country, alcohol is not available there. Commanding Officers of The Canadian Forces allow troops to bring alcohol onto its bases only three times a year: for Oktoberfest; an event in November; and Christmas. Steam Whistle Brewing will be sending limited edition Steam Whistle Pilsner Holiday 12-packs to arrive just in time for the holidays."

Well done, good beer folks! And for the bonus round, spot fabulous husband in the staff photo above. It's like were's Waldo, but worth it.
