After the last post we had a rough night. Found Cat attempting to sleep in her litter box with an expression of abject misery all over her fur. She did no move of her own accord for another 6 hours as I bathed her, wrapped her in a warm blanky and attempted to get her to eat or drink. I gave her a pounce treat which she sniffed and considered, but ultimately decided to wrap a paw around and lay on instead of eat. Had to force water down her throat in small increments. To time them and not overwhelm her with more fluid than she could absorb, I read to her and we rehydrated every chapter. Coraline by Neil Gaiman - if it was the content of a black cat in the story or simply the sound of a voice directed at her, she had an ear in my direction the whole night. Eventually, around 2am and after one unit of the new insulin (was told to wait until 8am, but it was a half dose and what the hell) we watched her painfully climb the stairs, each step taken on it's own with focus and determination but not much strength. The next morning she ate a little and drank a bit of water. Hours later, she carefully came down stairs and demanded lunch from Ross. Her meow is a little off, more like a peep, but at least its there. I'm taking her in to the vets today for a fun filled day of bloodwork to check her sugar levels and see if she needs more insulin or if the refresher was good enough.
And if you told me 10 yrs ago I'd be playing nurse to a diabetic cat...I'd have said "yeah, that sounds like me."

Cats can be expensive family members, but I think they're worth it. At least your cat has a good home and is not on the street somewhere with her illness. Her story makes me want to cry... scratch her head for me. Good luck to you and your kitty.
